Cloncurry Looks To Cobalt Boost
The Age
Monday September 18, 1995
Cloncurry Mining Company NL is to investigate a new cobalt extraction process and its potential to enhance revenues and profits from its $14.5 million Great Australia copper project at Cloncurry, in north-west Queensland.
Under a cooperation agreement with Electrometals Mining Ltd and Ausenco Pty Ltd, Cloncurry will look to add the extraction of high-value cobalt to the already planned copper SX/EW circuit.
Any process developed by the partnership will remain the property of Ausenco and Electrometals, while the commercial plant at the Great Australia mine would remain fully owned by Cloncurry.
First copper production from the standard SX/EW plant at Great Australia is due in March next year. Cobalt production from the new process technology could be possible by July.
